There are several tools used to analyze the stability of a slope, including the analysis of graphic analyses, manual calculation and the use of software, being the latter the most widely used at present. An important part in this type of analysis is to know the limitations and strengths of each tool. One of the most widely used type of methodology is the deterministic method in which the slope is analyzed in terms of the effort-deformation of the soil relationship, of the stability in terms of a security factor and the instability in terms of the causes that have originated it, having into account situations that are more complex such as the geometry of the slope, the geological parameters, the properties of the soil, and the water flows, etc. One of the issues geotechnia has starts with the lack of knowledge of the potential mechanisms in the fault of the slope. Just to mention an example, in the analysis of a slope issues such as geotechnical parameters, geological conditions, characteristics of the drainage of the area of study or the overcharge of the soil are not considered. Because of these issues, the present study is conducted and it will include the design of the slope, Palmira Sector North Slope Rural School in the Municipality of San Vicente de Chucuri, Departament de Santander, which was affected by a slide of rotational type. The study will describe the way in which each of the factors, processes and mechanisms that are responsible for the instability in slope (slides) (geotechnical behavior of residual soils, the topography, profile of weathering (meterorizacion), water flows, anthropic intervention, etc.) and the way in which these affect the stability of a slope. From the viewpoint of geotechnia, the study will also address the steps that are required in the analysis of the stability of the slope as well as a comparison by the method of finite elements. In order to adequately analyze a work of stabilization it is important to design models, for example, the calculation of security factors as tools symbolizes a basic element of the conceptual models, as a fundamental activity for the diagnostics and stabilization of the problems associated with slides. In order to elaborate the present work, both official information, class notes and data from various investigations of the properties of the soil of the municipality of San Vicente de Chucuri and surrounding areas were used, which is characterized by its high geological instability due to the convergence of several coluvions such as the La Renta (La Leona) Coluvion.
