In the veterinary clinic Vetermedicas, a phased array probe is not being used. Implementing an echocardiography protocol will not only make use of the probe but also to reach a diagnosis in canines with possible heart disease. The echocardiography examination is recommended to be performed in patients with signs such as: frequent cough, exercise intolerance, cyanosis, habitual fainting, and arrhythmias, etc. The canines for this examination do not need fasting or taking medications, however the area in which the probe will be placed must be prepared so that the hairs do not interfere with the image. In general, it is not necessary to sedate the canine that will be evaluated, even so, in cases of aggressive / nervous patients, low-dose sedatives can be used, considering that this will slightly alter some cardiac values. The best position to perform the examination is in lateral decubitus on a table that allows an approach from below to the thorax, despite this it is also possible to perform the examination with the canine in quadripedestation without significant alterations in the results. Two measurements that we can make in this assessment are the shortening fraction that indicates the contractile capacity and the relationship between the diameter of the left atrium and the root of the aorta.
