    Evaluación de la efectividad del agua electrolizada para desinfección de instrumental quirúrgico

    This project has been made with the objective of evaluating the effectiveness of neutral electrolyzed water as a high-level disinfectant in surgical instruments. To carry out this purpose, 8 pieces of instruments were used, chosen randomly selected from a basket of instruments, provided by an institution of health services in the Metropolitan Area of Bucaramanga. The project was carried out taking 320 samples, which were marked according to the time of immersion (3, 5, 8 and 15 min) and the concentration (250, 300, 400, 500 ppm) worked. The pieces of instruments were contaminated with the strains of: Escherichia coli, Streptococcus pyogenes, Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa, in a total inoculated microbial load of 25.5 x 107 colony-forming units for 20 minutes; the previously contaminated instruments were immersed in electrolyzed water in sterile containers for different times and in different concentrations, to then take the respective samples by means of the swab technique. After 3 minutes of immersion and at a concentration of 250 ppm, the crops showed a 100% reduction of the inoculated microbial load, which determines that the electrolyzed water is effective as a high level disinfectant against gram positive and gram negative bacteria; In addition to being friendly to the environment, it does not cause any significant damage to the health of the staff and the patient, and does not corrode the surgical instruments thanks to its neutral pH.
