- PublicaciónAcceso abiertoConsideraciones sobre reuso y reprocesamiento de dispositivos médicos en Colombia 2018-2019(Bucaramanga : Universidad de Santander, 2019, 2019-12) Regueros Ortiz, Jheiny Lizbeth; Rueda Hernández, Lyda-VictoriaThe decree, number 2003 of 2014, highlights three important aspects that must be taken into account by the Healthcare Provider Institutions (IPS) when they decide to reuse medical tools. Therefore, they must guarantee scientific evidence and traceability against the reuse by each patient and that the effectiveness of the tool does not imply reduction in the efficiency. Consequently, the objective of this article is to reflect on the context of reuse at the global and national level, according to current regulations. As part of a methodology, a bibliographical revision was done with the search of 30 scientific articles out of which 20 were selected on reuse, reprocessing medical devices and sterilization process. Search engines as Mendeley and Scielo were browsed. At the same time, reports from the website of the Ministry of Health and surveillance entities of medical devices such as Invima were reviewed, issued in the past three years, and the current regulations in the country were verified. Among the findings it is important to emphasize that the indicated term is “reprocessing” instead of “reuse” and requires of procedures that comply with quality assurance standards, so that, for example, a medical device complies with the integrity standards endorsed by the manufacturer. The case of the Colombian context has not yet been given the scientific evidence that standardizes the handling in that respect. Therefore, this work proposes to generate a reflection to address the issue of reuse in Colombia, which has health implications that can affect the safety of a patient care.
