Brachiaria decumbens and Panicum maximum cv. Mombasa, are important grasses in the department of Cesar and Colombian territory, due to their adaptability and forage potential in livestock. Height yield, green forage per m2, dry matter per m2 were evaluated, establishing 18 experimental microplots, with a total area of 144 m2, in which 3 treatments were implemented (T1: Irrigation and composting; T2: Irrigation; T3 : without irrigation and without composting). Finding in Brachiaria decumbens at 60 days, height (A) of 0.98m in T1, 1.00m in T2 and 0.69m in T3; average (FV) production at 60 days of 3.13 kg /m² T1, 4.36 kg/m2 T2 and 1.68 kg /m2 T3; average production of dry matter (DM) was 1.25 kg /m² T1, 1.35 kg /m² T2 and 0.55 kg /m² T3. In Panicum maximum cv. Mombasa (A) 60 days 1.16m T1, 1.13m T2 and 0.89m T3; green fodder production (FV) 2.61 kg /m² T1, 3.73 kg /m² T2 and 1.72 kg /m2 T3. In the production of (DM) average in Brachiaria decumbens 1.35, 1.25 and 0.55 kg /m2, in T1, T2 and T3, respectively. It was concluded that the irrigation system with or without composting generates good results in height, green forage production and dry matter. Pérez, S.
