Consequently, infection by this bacteria produces a chronic and potentially serious disease that can affect various organs and systems of the human body, due to the bacteria's intelligence to evade the body's immune system. Said study in question sought to analyze the social and demographic characteristics of pregnant women undergoing prenatal care for the detection of syphilis infection and its prevalence in a health institution in the city of Riohacha in the period between 2021 and 2022 for the application of health promotion and disease prevention strategies. Regarding the methodological design, a retrospective, observational, descriptive and cross-sectional study was carried out in a retrospective time. To choose the sample of pregnant women, non-probabilistic convenience sampling was used, based on the availability and accessibility of data, instead of random selection. The final sample was made up of 147 participants. Regarding the results, a prevalence of 3.4% was found. It was concluded that, these results highlight the importance of continuing to work on the prevention, early diagnosis and timely treatment of syphilis in the region; In addition, it is essential to focus on awareness and education about syphilis, both in the general population and in the most vulnerable groups.
