| spa |
dc.description.abstract | This cross-sectional descriptive observational study was based on the application of the FINDRISC questionnaire, validated for Colombia, to a sample of young adult population in the city of Bucaramanga. The study was conducted at the Mutis Health Center, where 312 surveys were applied to young adults. Of these, 11.5% (36 patients) had prediabetes. Among the most prevalent risk factors, obesity was highlighted, affecting 72.2% of the patients, followed by overweight, which reached 19.4%. Additionally, 83.3% of the participants did not engage in regular physical activity, which emphasizes the relationship between physical inactivity and prediabetes. 58.3% of the patients had a history of elevated glucose, and a significant percentage had first-degree (15.9%) and second-degree (30.4%) relatives with diabetes. Hypertension was another common factor, as 86.1% of the prediabetic patients had this condition. These findings highlight the importance of identifying risk factors related to prediabetes at an early stage. The results obtained reinforce the need for early interventions aimed at modifying patients' lifestyles, with a focus on improving nutrition, promoting physical activity, and controlling other risk factors such as hypertension and obesity. The evaluation conducted at the Mutis Health Center allowed the identification of a range of risk factors associated with prediabetes in the young adult population, emphasizing the importance of preventive strategies. | eng |
