dc.description.abstractGastrointestinal diseases are one of the main public health problems, especially in developing countries, which do not have good health systems. Blastocystis spp. Is a protozoan with high prevalence worldwide that is transmitted very easily by inadequate hygiene habits and has been related to gastrointestinal symptoms. The main objective of the investigative study was to establish the relationship between subtypes of Blastocystis spp. and irritable bowel syndrome. It is therefore convenient to mention that this syndrome constitutes a gastrointestinal disorder very frequent in medical practice. It is characterized by abdominal pain (or "malaise"), abdominal distension, and is associated with changes in the frequency of bowel movements and / or consistency. In this study we analyzed the symptoms associated with Blastocystis spp. infections compatible with irritable bowel syndrome and the prevalence of the parasite; From a sample of 389 inhabitants of the city of Cúcuta. With regard to symptomatology, diarrhea was the most likely symptom to be associated with the presence of the parasite with a P = 0.0250 value, which is very significant. Coproanalysis was performed and a total of 179 samples were positive for Blastocystis and a total of 44.13% of the samples were monoparasited by Blastocystis spp. Indicating that the samples to discard other enteropathogens were made coprological and modified Ziehl Neelsen staining, and coproculture diarrheal stool and Adenovirus / Rotavirus test, thus obtaining truly monoparasite samples. Conventional PCR was performed on the latter, in order to determine the subtypes of ST1 to ST7 of Blastocystis spp. With ST1 being the most prevalent. It is possible to associate in a great extent the subtype 5 with gastrointestinal symptomatology compatible with the Irritable Intest Syndrome in the population of San José de Cúcuta.eng
dc.description.abstractActualmente las enfermedades gastrointestinales son unos de los principales problemas de salud pública, principalmente en países en vía de desarrollo, que no cuentan con buenos sistemas de salubridad. Blastocystis spp. es un protozoario con alta prevalencia a nivel mundial que se transmite muy fácilmente por los inadecuados hábitos de higiene y se ha llegado a relacionar con sintomatología gastrointestinal. El objetivo principal del estudio investigativo fue establecer la relación entre subtipos de Blastocystis spp. y el síndrome del intestino irritable. Es por ende conveniente mencionar que este síndrome constituye un trastorno gastrointestinal muy frecuente en la práctica médica. Se caracteriza por dolor abdominal (o "malestar"), distensión abdominal, y se asocia a cambios en la frecuencia de las evacuaciones y/o su consistencia. En este estudio se analizaron los síntomas asociados a infecciones por Blastocystis spp. compatibles con el síndrome del intestino irritable y la prevalencia del parásito; a partir de una muestra de 389 habitantes de la ciudad de Cúcuta. Con respecto a sintomatología, la diarrea mostró ser el síntoma con mayor probabilidad de ser asociado a la presencia del parásito con un valor P=0.0250, lo cual es algo muy significativo. Se realizaron los coproanálisis y un total de 179 muestras resultaron positivas para Blastocystis y un total de 44.13% de las muestras resultaron monoparasitadas por Blastocystis spp. señalando que a las muestras para descartar otros enteropatógenos se les realizo coprológico y tinción de Ziehl Neelsen modificado, y a las heces diarreicas coprocultivos y test de Adenovirus/Rotavirus, obteniéndose así muestras realmente monoparasitadas. A estas últimas se les realizó PCR convencional, con el fin de determinar los subtipos del ST1 al ST7 de Blastocystis spp. encontrándose el ST1 como más prevalente. Lográndose asociar en gran medida el subtipo 5 con sintomatología gastrointestinal compatible con el Síndrome del Intestino Irritable en la población de San José de Cúcuta.spa
