Este artículo aborda cómo el turismo sostenible está transformando paisajes y comunidades y a su vez, establece nuevas conexiones entre el entorno y la comunidad, configurando nuevos espacios de reciprocidad para el fomento del desarrollo económico en el marco de la sostenibilidad. Por consiguiente, este documento se desarrolló con la siguiente estructura temática: un primer punto sobre la relación entre el turismo sostenible y el desarrollo económico a nivel local, seguido por los principales elementos incidentes del turismo sostenible en el desarrollo económico a nivel local y por último, las experiencias más destacadas de turismo sostenible a nivel internacional. Asimismo, para el desarrollo de este artículo se usó una metodología de tipo documental – descriptivo con información obtenida de bases de datos especializadas, para con ello dar respuesta a la pregunta ¿Por qué el turismo sostenible se considera como el motor de desarrollo económico a nivel local?. Por tanto, el turismo sostenible y la gestión pública están estrechamente interrelacionados. Para que el turismo sostenible tenga éxito, es primordial que las autoridades locales trabajen en colaboración con la industria y la comunidad para desarrollar políticas y prácticas que promuevan el respeto por el medio ambiente, la cultura local y el bienestar económico. Esta colaboración activa puede conducir a un turismo más equitativo y sostenible que beneficia a todos los involucrados.

This article addresses how sustainable tourism is transforming landscapes and communities and, in turn, establishes new connections between the environment and the community, configuring new spaces of reciprocity to promote economic development within the framework of sustainability. Consequently, this document was developed with the following thematic structure: a first point on the relationship between sustainable tourism and economic development at the local level, followed by the main incident elements of sustainable tourism in economic development at the local level and finally , the most outstanding experiences of sustainable tourism internationally. Likewise, to develop this article, a documentary-descriptive methodology was used with information obtained from specialized databases, in order to answer the question: Why is sustainable tourism considered the engine of economic development at the national level? local?. Therefore, sustainable tourism and public management are closely interrelated. For sustainable tourism to be successful, it is paramount that local authorities work collaboratively with industry and the community to develop policies and practices that promote respect for the environment, local culture and economic well-being. This active collaboration can lead to more equitable and sustainable tourism that benefits everyone involved.
